A concert in a piano story? It’s not just any concert and it’s not just any store. Famed jazz composer-orchestrator Alan Broadbent will be saying goodbye to L.A. in a performance Saturday at the Steinway Piano Gallery in West Hollywood.
It’s part of the Jazz Bakery’s Movable Feast series, and proprietor Ruth Price is pleased that Broadbent will have a worthy instrument: “He’s got a beautiful Steinway D to play, and he won’t need any amplification.”
Broadbent, 64, is moving to New York after 39 years in Southern California.
The soft-spoken New Zealand native said from his Santa Monica home: “People are making more out of this than they need to. The bulk of my work is as a touring musician, and I can do that from anywhere.”
