Long Beach Poly and Mission Viejo, already projected to be among the best teams in California according to Southern Section, state, national and media rankings, will see how they stack up against teams from Ohio today in the Burger King/Kirk Herbstreit Challenge in Canton.
Long Beach Poly is ranked No. 2 in The Times’ poll and Southern Section Pac-5 Division rankings, rated No. 3 in the state by CalHiSports.com as well as No. 11 by USA Today and No. 26 by Rivals.com in national polls. The Jackrabbits are taking on Cleveland Glenville at Fawcett Stadium as we speak, uh, I mean, as we read.
The Jackrabbits, 11-2 and Southern Section Pac-5 semifinalists last season, and Mission Viejo, 9-3 and a Pac-5 quarterfinalist last year, are the only California teams competing in the Herbstreit event, which includes eight games being played today and three more to be played Sunday in Cincinnati.
The event features 11 Ohio schools taking on elite representatives of eight other states.
