Close quarters

The first quarter was just as I expect the entire game between Millikan and Lakewood to be -- close and competitive.

Millikan got on the scoreboard first, thanks to a 36-yard field goal by Brian Covey.

Not to be outdone, Lakewood got a 10-yard scoring run by junior Alex Fletcher, a big, strong bull of a back.

Fletcher’s touchdown, followed by a fumble on a conversion run attempt, gave the Lancers a 6-3 edge at the end of the quarter.
