Lake Balboa Birmingham still hasn’t reversed its downward trend since Ed Croson left as coach three years ago, but Coach Jim Rose believes the talent is present to see much improvement over last season’s 2-8 record.

Birmingham will rely on 6-foot-4 receiver Marcus Harris, linebackers Adrian Mora and Joey Pereira and lineman Terrance Knighten, who’s a 6-3, 270-pound junior.

Coaching changes have made the West Valley League wide open for this fall. There’s no definitive favorite. Birmingham will be playing in Saturday’s seven-on-seven tournament at L.A. Valley College.
