McEnroe Top-Seeded in U.S. Indoor Tourney

PHILADELPHIA — John McEnroe has been seeded first to defend his title in the U.S. Pro Indoor Tennis tournament, which runs from Monday to next Sunday at the Spectrum.
McEnroe will be trying for his fourth straight title here. Jimmy Conners who has won the Philadelphia title four times, has been seeded No. 2.
Ivan Lendl, who twice has been runner-up in Philadelphia, was seeded third but was forced to withdraw because of injury. Sweden’s Mats Wilander is now third. Dave Pate of Las Vegas was added to the field and seeded 16th.
The remaining seeds are: 4, Eliot Teltscher, United States; 5, Yannick Noah, France; 6, Joakim Nystrom, Sweden; 7, Jimmy Arias, United States; 8, Kevin Curren, South Africa; 9, Tomas Smid, Czechoslovakia; 10, Stefan Edberg, Sweden, 11, Ben Testerman, United States; 12, Brad Gilbert, United States; 13, Ramesh Krishnan, India; 14, Henri Leconte, France; 15, John Sadri, United States, and Pate.
