This letter is in response to reports (Times, Jan. 28) of threats against attorney Gary B. Fleischman stemming from his representation of accused war criminal Andrija Artukovic.
Our system of justice in the United States requires that all individuals accused of a crime receive sound, capable and vigorous representation despite the crime of which they are accused.
These threats to Fleischman represent far more than an assault upon an individual. They are attacks upon every criminal defendant’s constitutional right to representation and due process.
Those responsible for the threats and harassment of Fleischman either have no understanding or no respect for our system of justice or the ethical responsibilities of attorneys.
