California power consumers are getting an additional 1.1. million kilowatts from Pacific Gas & Electric Co.’s power grid with the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant working at full capacity for the first time in its history. The controversial plant on the San Luis Obispo County coast began putting out full power of its Unit 1 reactor Wednesday afternoon. A PG&E; spokesman said the extra power goes into the utility’s grid system and could be used by any of the other utilities in the Western Intertie system that need it.
