El Cajon Police Officer Charles Barranco was charged Thursday with a misdemeanor count of interfering with an arrest and a felony count of attempting to be an accessory to a felony, the district attorney’s office said. Barranco, 29, was arrested March 9 by fellow officers and accused of releasing information from confidential police investigations. The three-year veteran attempted to tip off the subject of a police drug raid, authorities said. El Cajon police said that a one-year investigation revealed that Barranco was a drug user who associated with known drug dealers. He is free on $4,500 bail.
