Two off-road vehicles collided on a dirt lot in the 4300 block of Palm Avenue near Interstate 805 Sunday, leaving one man dead and another injured. Mark A. Turner, 26, a carpenter from Chula Vista, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3 p.m., coroner’s Deputy William Leard said. Al J. Wallake, 20, of San Diego was treated at Chula Vista Community Hospital and released. Authorities said Turner was driving an off-road vehicle eastbound on the dirt when he made a U-turn and collided with Wallake’s off-road motorcycle. Turner apparently died from head injuries, Leard said. The area is a favorite gathering place for off-road drivers.
