Sri Lanka and Tamils
It was indeed a pleasant surprise to see a letter on “Sri Lanka and Tamils.” The title intentionally or otherwise summarizes the true situation prevailing in the island nation, Sri Lanka. For the benefit of those who are not as familiar, I wish to share the exact implications of this title.
The present situation in Sri Lanka clearly shows that the Tamils of Sri Lanka, who are the lawful citizens of the country, are treated as “invaders.” Several newspapers in that country are very openly referring to the Tamils in this disgraceful and audacious manner. For this reason, it is evident that the current situation in this island is one in which the government and the majority of its people are teamed up against a minority of their own land.
