William A. Shields was appointed president of worldwide sales and marketing for New World Pictures, Los Angeles. He was promoted from executive vice president, a post he had held since February, 1984.
Joan Levine has been appointed president of the Griffin Agency, a direct-marketing unit of H. F. Ahmanson Co. based in South El Monte.
Deborah Reinberg has been named to the newly created post of vice president-business affairs/music for Warner Bros., Burbank. She previously was vice president-business affairs at Elektra/Asylum Records.
Kathleen A. Scott has been named first vice president-communications at Angeles/Quinoco Securities Inc., a subsidiary of Angeles Corp.
Olympic National Bank, Los Angeles, appointed as directors Alan J. Rothenberg, senior partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Tunney; Arnold E. Prince, founding partner in the law firm of Prince & Littenberg, and Murray Ozer, a real estate developer.

Walter T. Rossi, president of Mervyn’s department stores, has been named to the additional post of chief operating officer. The 128-store retailer, based in Hayward, is a unit of Dayton-Hudson.

James B. Taylor was named vice chairman and chief executive of Gates Learjet Corp., Tucson. He succeeds Charles C. Gates, who will remain as chairman but will withdraw from day-to-day operations.
