The American Civil Liberties Union has filed three lawsuits accusing San Francisco police of unwarranted brutality during demonstrations at the 1984 Democratic National Convention. The civil rights lawsuits seek a total of $3.15 million in general and punitive damages. They also ask for an injunction against future brutality and specifically against the “charging” of mounted police into crowds.
