Christy Alves’ bid for a fourth straight no-hitter came up two outs short Tuesday afternoon when she gave up a single in the seventh inning of a Foothill League softball game at San Gabriel High School.
Alves, a freshman from Burroughs of Burbank, surrendered a one-out single to San Gabriel’s Beatrice Fernandez, ending a string of 27 hitless innings.
“I think I was a little nervous in the seventh,” said Alves, who struck out 13 batters in an 11-0 victory. “But I’m glad we won.’
The Southern Section record for consecutive no-hitters is five, set by Monica Messmer of South Hills in 1983. The national record is seven, set this season by Lisa Bautista of L.A. Banning.
