The City Council approved an application to the state for more than $30,000 in entitlement funds for the city’s pond and stream renovation project at Wilderness Park.
The funds, which would be provided under the Roberti-Z’Berg Urban Open Space and Recreation Program, would be used to change the pond and stream beds from porous clay to a concrete mixture, refurbish the water circulation and aeration systems, and line the pond and stream edges with rock to prevent further erosion.
The total cost of the project is expected to exceed $75,000. To receive the state funds, a 25% match in local money is required. City Manager Timothy Casey said the matching money would come from the city’s parks and recreation facilities fund.
