Hawthorne : Council Approves Annexation of Southeast Area
- Share via
The City Council this week unanimously approved a long-pending annexation on the southeast edge of the city that will bring 100 more households into Hawthorne and extend city police, fire and other services to the area. The new territory is generally bounded by Yukon and Rosecrans avenues and the Dominguez Channel. The annexation excluded Bodger Park, which was an earlier stumbling block to taking the area into the city because Hawthorne would have had to assume costs of the county facility.
In other action, the council voted to initiate annexation of an unincorporated Del Aire neighborhood east of the San Diego Freeway between 116th and 120th streets. It contains 25 homes and vacant state property. The council will hold a public hearing on the annexation proposal on May 13.
