Compton to Salute City’s Youth With Parade, Programs

COMPTON — A Compton Youth Day, including a parade and program to celebrate the accomplishments of the city’s youngsters, is scheduled for Saturday.
The event, sponsored by the city, the school district and local businesses, will begin with a 9 a.m. parade. The procession of bands and drill teams from local schools will start at Davis Junior High School at 621 W. Poplar St., make its way south on Wilmington Avenue, then turn east on Compton Boulevard before ending at the Civic Center at Acacia Avenue and Compton.
An 11 a.m. program at the Civic Center will include student performances in music, dance, drama and speech. A student government group will conduct a mock City Council session.
