Royal Daughter of SS Member Sheds Tears at Luncheon

LONDON — Britain’s Princess Michael, wife of a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, broke down in tears today while thanking the public for rallying around her since the disclosure that her father had been a member of Hitler’s SS.
“I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of people who have written to me,” she said in a faltering voice with tears streaming down her face.
“It has not been an easy 10 days,” she said at a luncheon for physicians.
The 450 people at the lunch, her first public speaking engagement since the scandal broke last week, gave her a standing ovation.
