RIVERSIDE — A turbocharged Porsche 934, driven by Chet Vincentz of Falls Church, Va., crashed just beyond the start-finish line at Riverside International Raceway and burned to the ground during practice Thursday for Sunday’s Times/Nissan Grand Prix of Endurance.
Vincentz, 46, walked away from the wreck but was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for observation. The crash occurred when Vincentz hit an oil slick and lost control of his car in Turn 1. Traveling backward, the car smacked a wall, then slid around and hit it again from the front.
“Once I hit that oil, it was like being on ice,” Vincentz said. “I had absolutely no control.”
The car burst into flames as Vincentz crawled out.
