Two Firefighters Charged in 28 Fires

NAPLES, Fla. — Two firefighters who allegedly liked to “see the fire trucks come” have acknowledged lighting 28 brush fires, state forestry officials say.
Garry Allen Barfield, 28, a Division of Forestry employee, and John Walter Hunt, 36, a former Immokalee firefighter, were being held at the Collier County Jail last week on charges of willfully burning land.
“They did it for the thrill of it,” said Forestry Division investigator Ed Jones. He said the two men acknowledged setting the fires and hiding in the brush to watch firefighters arrive.
The two were arrested Wednesday after a tip, Jones said.
