The El Monte City Council has approved a list of projects it plans to finance with its $2,234,972 allocation for fiscal year 1985-86 from the federal Community Development Block Grant program, according to Juan Mireles, assistant director of community development. The city has budgeted $750,000 in grant funds for housing, $300,000 for public works, $500,000 for land acquisition in the El Monte Center redevelopment project, $200,000 for rehabilitation of Valley Mall, $100,000 to refurbish parks and recreation facilities and $230,000 for general administration. Another $154,972 will be placed in a contingency fund, Mireles said. Last month, the council approved an application for a $3-million Urban Development Action Grant for land acquisition and site improvements on the El Monte Center project.
