Vehicle Hits, Kills 3 Children

CAMP PENDLETON — Three children were killed and a woman was seriously injured today when they were struck by a vehicle as they stood near a road on the base, military authorities said.
The driver was taken into custody by military police after the accident, said Marine Cpl. Mike Badon, a base spokesman. He said one child was pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were airlifted to local hospitals, where they died shortly after the 8:45 a.m. accident. The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries. Names were withheld until relatives could be notified.
