More Comment Time Set on At-Sea Toxic Disposal

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency has extended until June 28 the deadline for comments on proposed rules to allow ocean incineration of millions of tons of toxic waste, officials said Wednesday.
In February, the EPA imposed a three-month deadline for comments on the controversial rules, which would allow at-sea burning of hazardous waste off the shores of Texas and Louisiana as early as next year. But the EPA has determined that additional time should be allowed, “to ensure that all interested parties have sufficient opportunity to submit comments,” according to a notice in the Federal Register.
