Vander Jagt Won’t Seek Michigan Governorship

DETROIT — Rep. Guy Vander Jagt (R-Mich.) said Thursday that he will not run for governor next year because he has a greater responsibility as part of the GOP leadership in Congress.
Vander Jagt, 53, who is the third-ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee, said he had “overwhelming support” for his candidacy but believed that he should help sustain the “Republican renaissance” started by President Reagan.
