Chapman Advances in Softball Action

The Chapman College women’s softball team defeated Portland State (1-0) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (6-2) Thursday in the Sacramento State Tournament to advance to today’s semifinals, where the Panthers will meet defending Division II national champion Cal State Northridge.
Diane Blankenship pitched a four-hitter in the first game and scored Chapman’s only run on Tracee Prell’s fifth-inning single. In the second game, Cathy Fisher threw a four-hitter, and Sheri Petrone went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for the Panthers.
Debbie Shiffer singled home Prell in the sixth inning for a 3-2 lead, and Chapman added three insurance runs in the seventh.
