PCAA Track : Fresno, Las Vegas Win Men’s, Women’s Titles

Fresno State won the men’s team competition at Saturday’s Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. track and field championships at UC Irvine, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas took the women’s division title.

Fresno State’s Red Estes and Utah State’s Ralph Maugham were named men’s co-coaches of the Year. Craig Armstrong of San Jose State, who won the 200 (21.06) and 400-meters (46.47), was named co-athlete of the year with Fresno’s Peter Brett, winner of the 5,000 meters (14:03.92).

Al McDaniels of Nevada Las Vegas was coach of the year for the women and UNLV’s Sheila Tarr was athlete of the year after winning the shotput (49-1 1/2) and the 100 hurdles (14.17), and placing second in the long jump (18-10) and the high jump (5-7).

The Anteaters’ top performers were John Wagoner, winner of the high jump (6-10), Stephanie Mundt, winner of the heptathlon (3,353 points), Jenny Linderman, winner of the high jump (5-9), Beth McGrann, winner of the 5,000 (17:26.28), and Jennifer Abraham, who won the 3,000 (9:51.46)

The men’s team scores: Fresno State 207.5, San Jose State 157, Utah State 103, UC Santa Barbara 90, Cal State Long Beach 57.5, and New Mexico State 25. UCI was not eligible for team scoring due to conference sanctions.

In the women’s competition, UNLV scored 90 points, UCI placed second with 65, Hawaii scored 31 and UCSB scored 20.
