The first tree in a forest has been planted in Chula Vista.
More than 120 people were transported by van along a mile-long dirt road to one of the highest points of a 3,073-acre site for the ceremonial planting to mark the beginning of the $2-billion Eastlake community and an urban forest of 250,000 trees.
Western Salt Co. owns the land on which EastLake will be developed over 20 years.
