BERN, Switzerland — The Swiss government on Monday ordered the expulsion of a Bulgarian diplomat accused of espionage while the Justice Ministry pressed an investigation of the president of the Bulgarian Cultural Club, Janko Jankov, a Swiss-Bulgarian dual national.
According to the federal prosecutor’s office, which headed the investigation, Jankov helped the diplomat gain access to the files of the club, whose members include Bulgarian refugees.
The Bulgarian diplomat was not identified in the Justice Ministry statement.
Jankov is already under investigation for illegally transferring technology to Bulgaria from Switzerland, the statement said. It did not specify what the new charges are.
