Fugitive Captured in Pittsburgh Suburb

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Marshals Service captured escaped fugitive and convicted murderer Bernard Welch today in a suburb of Pittsburgh, the FBI said.
The bureau said Welch, convicted for the 1980 shooting death of Washington cardiologist Dr. Michael Halberstam, was apprehended in Greensburg, Pa., by U.S. marshals there. A Greensburg police secretary said officers checking out a car blocking an alley found that the vehicle was stolen and traced the theft to the fugitive.
