Rebels in Mozambique Hold 2 European Captives

LISBON — Right-wing Mozambican rebels said Tuesday that they are holding two technicians, one British and one Irish, captured last week and will only negotiate their release directly with the governments of the two countries.
A Lisbon spokesman for the Mozambique National Resistance said its forces captured Malcolm James Blakey, an Englishman,and John Patrick O’Connell, from Ireland, when they attacked and burned a British-run sugar mill in the central town of Luabo on July 30.
