Young Plans to Sue USFL, Agent Says

Leigh Steinberg, the attorney for quarterback Steve Young, said Tuesday that Young plans to sue the United States Football League because of the “king’s ransom” the league is asking from anyone who wishes to buy out his contract.
“Tampa Bay is interested (in signing Young), but the exorbitant amount of money that the USFL is demanding for a non-lawsuit release of his contract is so high that no one in the world of sports can even contemplate negotiating with them,” Steinberg said.
Young, the former Brigham Young standout, signed a lucrative, multiyear contract with the Los Angeles Express last spring and played with the team for most of two USFL seasons.
Steinberg said that Young’s contract was breached when operation of the Express was taken over by the USFL.
