Hitachi, Japan’s largest electronics manufacturer, was responding to news that the U.S. Justice Department. is investigating possible “predatory pricing” on Hitachi’s semiconductors. A spokesman for Hitachi America Ltd. said he was confident that the firm will be exonerated. The probe was touched off by the disclosure of an internal Hitachi memo urging salespeople to undercut competitors’ semiconductor prices at all costs.
