DOWNEY — A scholarship fund to benefit students at Warren High School has been established in honor of Dave Barnes, a test pilot for the Northrop Corp. who died May 14 while flying an F-20 Tigershark to the International Air Show in Paris.
Barnes, an outstanding student and athlete at Warren, flew 120 hazardous missions in Vietnam before becoming a test pilot for the Air Force.
After serving in the Air Force for 18 years and logging 5,000 hours flying a variety of aircraft, Barnes resigned to become a civilian test pilot for Northrop.
Barnes, who lived in Downey, is survived by his wife, Pam, and four teen-age children.
Contributions to the Dave Barnes Scholarship Fund can be mailed to Warren High School, 8141 DePalma St., Downey, Calif. 90841.
