Chinese Typhoon Toll 117

PEKING — A typhoon that struck the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang last week killed 177 people, injured about 1,400 and devastated a huge area of farmland, the newspaper China Daily said Wednesday. The storm, China’s sixth of its kind this year, also destroyed 20,000 homes and sank or badly damaged 1,400 boats.
