The Planning Commission this week denied a permit for the sale of alcoholic beverages at a pharmacy-market called Ethical Drugs.
The permit was turned down because the staff found that the additional availability of alcohol would adversely affect the neighborhood surrounding the store, at 1402 Santa Monica Mall.
The city is trying to revitalize the mall, which has become a popular loitering spot among public drunks.
