4 Children Hurt in Chemistry Lab

WASHINGTON — Four children were injured, two of them critically, in a chemical explosion today during a summer school science experiment, police and hospital officials said.
Two 9-year-old boys suffered second- and third-degree burns, and an 8-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl suffered minor injuries. An instructor said two of the children were jamming wire elements with a pestle when the explosion occurred.
