SANTIAGO, Chile — A suspected saboteur was blown apart when a bomb he apparently tried to plant outside a police museum exploded prematurely, officials said Monday.
Two suspected accomplices and a police officer were wounded in an ensuing shootout.
Police said the bomb went off late Sunday outside a police museum near the Chilean capital’s national stadium.
Among those awakened by the blast was police Capt. Oscar Canon Sepulveda, who rushed from his nearby home and opened fire on two suspected accomplices as they fled in a stolen automobile.
Police said the two were cornered in a garage where they hid after abandoning their car. The pair were captured following a shootout in which Canon Sepulveda and both suspects were wounded.
