Chlorine Gas Forces Evacuations in France

AURAY, France — A cloud of toxic chlorine gas caused by a leak at a water treatment plant evaporated Tuesday after hovering for nearly three hours over the countryside of western France, police said.
Two employees were hurt, one seriously, when an estimated 1.3 million cubic feet of the gas billowed from the plant at Treauray near this Brittany town.
The area was sealed off and people were evacuated.
