About 1,800 athletes, ages 10 to 18, will compete in the Summer Games ’85 championships Saturday at UCLA.
Summer Games ’85 is a summer-long sports program funded by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee’s Amateur Athletics Foundation, which used a $2 million grant from the 1984 Summer Olympics surplus money earmarked for Southern California youth.

Opening ceremonies for Saturday’s Summer Games ’85 youth competition at UCLA will begin at 9:30 a.m. The time reported in Wednesday’s editions was incorrect.
The opening ceremonies for Saturday’s championships will begin at 10:45 a.m. Competition in track and field, basketball, and volleyball will begin shortly after 10:30 a.m. There will also be competition involving developmentally disabled and wheelchair athletes.
There is no admission charge.
