The Legislature sent to the governor a bill giving $2.9 million to four Northern California counties that say they need the money to combat the growing of marijuana. The measure by Sen. Barry Keene (D-Benicia) passed the Assembly on a 68-0 vote and won final passage from the Senate on a 38-0 vote to accept Assembly amendments. The money in the bill would help cover the expenses of local law enforcement agencies raiding marijuana fields in the Emerald Triangle of Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties.
