In Final Action : Return to the Scene of a Crime

A measure prompted by the release of convicted killer Theodore Streleski sailed through the Legislature to the governor’s desk. It would prevent people convicted of violent felonies from returning to the scenes of their crimes. Streleski, 49, a former Stanford University graduate student who beat his professor to death with a hammer, was released from prison Sunday after serving seven years. Streleski has said he cannot guarantee that he would not kill again. Stanford University police have said Streleski would be arrested for trespassing if he showed up on the Stanford campus. The bill by Sen. Robert Presley (D-Riverside) would make it a misdemeanor trespassing offense for a person convicted of a violent crime to return to the property where the original crime was committed.
