A Liberian military court convicted former Finance Minister Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of sedition and sentenced her to 10 years in prison. Johnson-Sirleaf, 46, a prominent banker and economist, had called members of Liberia’s military government “idiots” during a U.S. speech in July. She said she was frustrated because her political party was having trouble getting legal recognition for the Oct. 15 elections.
