A total of 69 new AIDS cases were reported in Los Angeles County last month, bringing to 1,129 the total reported in the county since 1981, according to the county Health Services Department. The department said 37 people died of AIDS-related ailments during August, bringing the county death toll from acquired immunity deficiency syndrome to 584. All but one of the new AIDS victims were adults, according to the monthly report. The single exception, officials said, was an infant who apparently contracted AIDS in the womb.
