Zola Budd, after running in a 10K at Rosemont, Ill., on Nov. 23, will compete in a 10K at San Diego Sunday, Dec. 1, according to Tim Murphy, race director of the Holiday Bowl Heart of San Diego Marathon and 10K.
Budd set a world record in the 5,000 meters of 14:48.07 in London on Aug. 26. The old mark, set by Ingrid Kristiansen of Norway, was 14:58.89.
The San Diego race will begin at the foot of the Coronado Bridge.
Running in the marathon will be Gabriela Andersen, who has a best of 2:33 but is best known for her struggling finish in the 1984 Olympic marathon. Also in the marathon, according to Murphy, will be Paul Cummings, winner of the Olympic trials 10,000 meters, and Steve McCormack, former UCLA runner who had a 28:39 10K in Ukiah, Calif., last month.
