Community College Water Polo Roundup : Golden West Beats Long Beach City to Earn Share of South Coast Title

The Golden West College water polo team won a share of the South Coast Conference championship Friday by defeating Long Beach City, 9-4, in Huntington Beach.
The Rustlers and Vikings ended the regular season tied for first with conference records of 7-1.
Golden West was led by Gary Tichy, who scored twice, and by goalie Jorge Garcia, who made 11 saves. The Rustlers begin play in the Southern California playoffs Nov. 15.
In Inland Conference action:
Rancho Santiago 14, Citrus 12--Mike Cornell scored five goals as the Dons, the top-ranked team in the state, won the conference title outright by edging the Owls at Santa Ana.
If Citrus (8-2 in conference) would have upset Rancho Santiago (10-0), it would have tied the Dons for the conference title.
Charles Sommer added three goals for Rancho Santiago, which is 24-1 overall. Bill Pfieffer of Citrus led all scorers with six.
In Pacific Coast Conference action:
Orange Coast 15, Grossmont 10--The conference champion Pirates (8-0, 19-3) completed regular-season play by defeating the Griffins (4-4, 15-9) at Grossmont.
Eric Keller scored six goals to lead Orange Coast. Teammate Mike Ure added three. Steve Bidwell led Grossmont with three.
