A $300,000 grant has sparked the building of a performing arts center at Los Alamitos High School.
The grant from the Los Alamitos Unified School District Education Foundation is being used to convert a multipurpose room at the city’s high school, which will be equipped with a professional sound system, stage lighting and equipment for both live and taped television coverage.

For the Record: An item on Sunday’s Digest page incorrectly reported that the Los Alamitos Unified School District Education Foundation had given a $300,000 grant to begin construction of a performing arts center at Los Alamitos High School. The school so far has raised $87,000 in private donations. Officials hope to raise a total of $300,000 by next June.
Restoration of the room will include replacing tiles, interior and exterior painting, re-doing the stage area and a new roof.
The interior will be re-done to include theater-style seating, carpeting and draperies as funds become available.
