The deal that was supposed to send veteran outfielder-designated hitter Don Baylor from the New York Yankees to the Chicago White Sox for catcher Carlton Fisk is off--for now.
Baylor and his agent, Jerry Kapstein, asked the White Sox to guarantee the option year of Baylor’s contract for 1987, thereby insuring him $875,000 instead of the buyout price of $375,000. They also asked for a new option year in 1988, plus $250,000 for waiving the no-trade clause.
The White Sox refused to grant the demands.
