Oceanside authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old man whose body was found in the charred remains of an apartment Friday evening.
The body of Eddie Lee Simpkins was found in a bedroom of an apartment that was gutted by fire Friday on the 800 block of South Tait, a fire department spokesman said.
The cause of the fire that produced an estimated $40,000 in damage to the two-story complex is not known.
