Whittier : Nixon Show Postponed

An appearance by Richard M. Nixon at Whittier College as part of a nationally broadcast cable TV series has been indefinitely postponed, a spokesman for New York-based Showtime cable said. Nixon, a 1934 graduate of the college, had tentatively agreed to an hourlong question-and-answer session on campus with several hundred Whittier students. The interview, which would have been taped by Showtime, was scheduled for Wednesday.
But the moderator for the show, sports commentator Howard Cosell, has yet to sign a contract with Showtime, putting the Nixon interview and several others for the series, tentatively titled “Cosell on Campus,” on hold, the Showtime spokesman said. Cosell had reportedly approached Showtime about doing a string of specials featuring famous Americans returning to their alma maters. But so far the cable company and Cosell have been unable to agree on a contract, the spokesman said.
