San Diego High School Basketball : San Dieguito Has Its Own Way in Upset

San Dieguito High boys’ basketball Coach Brian Daly felt if his team was to defeat highly regarded Clairemont (10-3) Wednesday, it would have to play San Dieguito-style basketball.
San Dieguito did and upset Clairemont, 48-32, in a nonleague game at Clairemont.
“We had a game plan not to get into a fast-break running game with Clairemont,” Daly said. “We made them play San Dieguito-style basketball. It’s not a slow down, just at our own pace.”
San Dieguito, which never trailed, made 18 of 36 field goals and held Clairemont to 12 of 34. Chris Bahr, San Dieguito’s 6-foot 4-inch center, had 15 points and 8 rebounds and held Clairemont’s Vic Baer (6-7) to six points.
San Dieguito (6-5) consistently broke Clairemont’s press, resulting in layups. It also handled Clairemont’s 6-foot-4 Jason Deal, who had eight first-half points but was held to two in the second half.
