Burbank to Bargain for Lower Mall Bid
The Burbank City Council on Tuesday voted to negotiate with a Pasadena-based construction company to get the firm to lower its bid for the project to open the pedestrian Golden Mall to traffic.
The firm, Shirley Brothers Inc., bid $6.1 million, 37% more than the city’s estimate of $4.5 million for the project.
Although city officials had considered re-advertising for the project, council members said it might be more expedient to negotiate with the Pasadena firm. Only one other company bid on the project, but it was disqualified because it did not include prices for some of the work.
